so we've started this new (i hesitate to call it a diet but for lack of a better word) diet. its a new macrobiotic approach to life. i've wanted to learn more about it and nutrition in general but excused myself by saying that i was too busy or over-extended or just plain tired and that i knew more or less what a balanced meal was.

yes, i've had more time on my hands in the last few months and i'm grateful for that so i had to take some initiative to make a major improvement in our very unhealthy way of life. since you just can't make either of us exercise i knew it was time to take a long hard look at food.

there's much to say about how its made my body and believe it or not mind feel but essentially i've found myself so much more full of energy and focus unlike any time i can ever remember.

it took a good book, a $180 trip to Whole Foods, a weight scale, and a real desire to change.

i'm still learning the most amazing stuff and its a lifestyle change so its gradual but we're both motivated and none of its been all that hard frankly.

i'll keep you all posted when the shit hits the fan and i binge on burgers and milkshakes again. i'll be the first person to admit my own weakness. but so far so good.

note: i have never done a diet in my life but i've been steadily gaining 5-10lbs every year since my first day of undergrad over 10 years ago so if i can do this anyone can.
