i'm in iowa right now at a not too exciting conference. i have but one day left here and that's a good thing. here is a sample of the kind of people i've met:

a local woman who has two daughters who just recently married in the last two years both of whom have had over $20K weddings. (how do you do that in des moines?) she also recently went with her husband on their first international vacation ever for thier 25th anniversary to europe. they saw 16 countries in 20 days. i know every detail about their trip - just ask me.

i also learned the difference between the miss usa pagent and the miss american pagent - one is a bikini contest and the other is a talent contest (in bikinis). or something like that according to the first speaker who was from the miss america pagentry organization. the post lunch speaker may in fact be from the national panhellenic orgaization who has something fascinating to say about sororities i'm sure.

all in all i've been wondering in what way i can bond with any of these people without letting my liberal cynical self walk away in disgust (which is more or less what i've just done post lunch.) one speaker was worth the visit alone so far and she was refreshing to listen to:
